Event Hosts

Steve Cram MBE

Steve Cram MBE was a legendary British athlete during the country's domination of middle distance running in the 1980s and was the first man to run under 3 minutes and 30 seconds for the metric mile. He began his career as a teenager, competing at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games in the 1500m.

Cram was European and Commonwealth Games champion at 1500m in 1982 and World Champion in 1983. He was also world mile record holder between 1985 and 1993 in 3:46.32.

Arguably his greatest year was in 1985 when he was virtually invincible; earning him the nickname "The Jarrow Arrow". His achievements include beating the reigning 800m Olympic Champion Joaquim Cruz, completing the 800m in 1:42.88, breaking three world records and recording a British All-Corners Record over the 1000m. He was also the first man to run under 3:30.00 for the 1500m, beating Said Aouita in Nice.

Cram's good form continued into the 1986 season in which he won both the 800m and 1500m at the Commonwealth Games (his winning 800m time - 1:43:22 - is still the games' record). Later in the season he won the bronze in the European Championships over 800m behind Seb Coe and Tom McKean while beating Coe to the gold medal over the 1500m.

Cram now works as a television presenter and athletics commentator predominantly for the BBC and was voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1983.

Stephen Miller

Stephen Miller was born with Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy affects the signals from the brain to the muscles making balance and coordination more difficult than usual. However, this did not deter Stephen from achieving a wealth of success both academically and professionally.

Having gained 9 GCSE's and 3 A levels, Stephen went on to complete an honours degree in Business Information Systems at the University of Northumbria.

From a young age, Stephen was always keen on sports and is now a professional athlete competing in field athletics; including the club (javelin and hammer), discus and shot put. Stephen has represented Great Britain for over 10 years, competing in 3 Paralympic Games, 3 World Championships and 2 European Championships. He is currently the world record holder, Paralympic, World and European Champion in the club event.

Currently Stephen is a freelance website developer.

Kriss Akabusi MBE

Kriss Akabusi MBE is famous for his achievements in athletics where his greatest individual triumph was his Gold Medal win in the 1990 European Championships when he beat David Hemery's 22 year old British Record.

He began his international athletic career in 1983 as a member of the 4x400 metre relay squad and will probably always be remembered for helping Britain clinch the Gold and beating the Americans in the World Championships in Tokyo in 1991.

In 1992 as 3 x Olympic medalist, World, European and Commonwealth Champion; Kriss was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in her Birthday Honours List in recognition of his services to the country through athletics.

From 1992 to 1998 Kriss' TV career hit an all time high, firstly as a presenter of The Big Breakfast followed by a full time position as co-host of the BBC's flagship programme Record Breakers. He has also regularly appeared as a panelist on many quiz shows such as A Question of Sport, They Think It's All Over and Through the Keyhole.

Kriss is currently the CEO of The Akabusi Company, a corporate communications and training company where his marvellous personality and reputation as a fantastic public speaker has made him a very popular and attractive advocate.

He truly is one of Britain's World Record Breakers.
