Badminton

Contact us

Badminton is a racket sport played using rackets to hit a shuttlecock over a net. It can be played at a local leisure centre, at the park or competitively.

Badminton is a sport for everyone, regardless of any physical, sensory or intellectual impairment. With small amendments to the playing areas, non-disabled players can play against or alongside players in wheelchairs or with mobility impairments.

Individuals with impaired muscle power, athetosis, and impaired passive range of movement, hypertonia, ataxia and leg length difference are all eligible to play para badminton. It can be enjoyed recreationally or competitively as long as the individual is able to hold the badminton racket.

It’s a great physical and mental work out and can be played as fast or slow as you like. It’s a very social sport too and can be played in singles or doubles.

What equipment will I need?

Most equipment will be provided by the club. Trainers and comfortable clothing are recommended. Some leisure centres may ask you to wear non-marking soled trainers indoors. You will need access to a badminton racket, a badminton net and a shuttlecock.
