CP Sport have collected a range of profiles from people with CP that participate in sport. We will be posting these profiles daily throughout CP Awareness Month (March) to celebrate positive stories and inspire people to take part in the future.

Name: Johnathan Mounde

Role: Athlete

Club: None (but keen to join one)

The sport I participate in: Running, but I also cycle, rock climbing, hiking.

How did the opportunity come for you to start participating in your sport? I wanted a new challenge, and the Hackney half marathon was coming up so I entered.

How have you benefited from participating in your chosen sport? I fell in love with a new sport, which is not something I thought I would do, I have also since joined a running group and met lots of people.

What skills have you learnt from running? I have learnt my limits and have come to the realisation that I am different and that I should not be ashamed it I cant do something (I am not built the same as my able-bodied friends).

What are your ambitions in sport? I would like to complete a full marathon.

Why should other people give your sport a go? Running is really good for you, and it is not as hard as you think, if you take it slowly and take care of your body, it is important to know that because of the CP, we are different, and we have different needs when it comes to sports.

Are there any further opportunities you like to see be made available in your sport? I would like to see more people with CP running, and if you are running, shout about it from the roof tops, I would love to meet more people with CP that run.
