CP Sport have collected a range of profiles from people with CP that participate in sport. We will be posting these profiles daily throughout CP Awareness Month (March) to celebrate positive stories and inspire people to take part in the future.
Name: Eloise Conway
Sport: Swimming
Clubs: Swindon ASC – Para Squad
What skills have you learnt or improved from participating in swimming? I have learned to dive off the blocks and the rules for competitions. I have improved on my strokes, perfecting them to make them more accurate.
How have you benefited from participating in your chosen sport? Yes! Swimming has helped me keep fit and use all my muscles. I have met other kids who are similar to me and our team and coaches are very supportive of each other. Swimming has given me more ambition and motivation for my goals along with a competitive spirit.
What are your ambitions in Swimming? My ultimate ambition is to swim in the Paralympics someday. But for the moment, I want to continue to compete in club competitions and galas, improving my racing skills and lap times.
Why should other people give your sport a go? Swimming is really good exercise and makes you move all your body. Even if you don’t want to be competitive, you’ll meet new friends and feel part of a team.
Are there any further opportunities you like to see be made available in your sport? It would be great if more para swimming competitions or friendly galas were available in our area that don’t require classification, but are made fair between kids with physical disabilities and kids without.
